about

'Look! There's a Blackbird' is a theme song for Musical Keys written by workshop facilitator, musician and composer Chris Dowding.

Chris visited four Musical Keys groups and projects from the four corners of our work, to collect material to be used in the writing process. Chris incorporated lyrics, phrases and music that were created during visits to the workshops.

The harmonic and melodic structure of the song was created by turning the words Musical Keys into notation via the alphabet system Chris developed with the band Natural Causes

Chris Dowding (who plays trumpet, piano and voice) is joined by other workshop facilitators Ian Brownlie (bass and guitar) and Blake Harrison (cello and Hang drum) to form the 'Grey Heron' trio; this is Grey Heron's first project as Musical Keys band-in-residence.

Handchimes were played by participants of the Equaliser project. The piece was recorded and produced by Musical Keys Programme Manager, Oliver Payne.

There is no part of this piece that is not to do with Musical Keys!

All proceeds from the sale of this piece will go towards supporting the valuable work of the charity.
